Tele Atlas Logo History

History of the Tele Atlas logo

Our company logo represents a child embarking on a journey on the back of a bird. It works as a metaphor, and encapsulates the nature of mapping and exploration.

The child sees the ground below with new eyes; the perception is of a map with all the real details of life. The Tele Atlas brand is broad in outlook, global and far-sighted. It expands into experience, knowledge, and the search for new territories.

The Tele Atlas logo was derived from the artwork of a well-known book, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. First published in 1906, the story follows the adventures of a mischievous 14-year old who is transformed into a tiny being, transported across the Swedish countryside on the back of a goose, and learns about nature, climate, geography, culture, and the importance of friendship, tolerance, and the belief in a good world.

Author Selma Lagerlöf was the first Swedish writer and the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Her classic book, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, has been translated into more than 30 languages and is an all-time favorite in Nordic countries.
