The Logo Featuring David




Our logo captures one of the greatest moments in history, a shepherd boy against all odds. We believe the story of David and Goliath symbolizes how anyone can succeed in the face of overwhelming odds. After taking on Goliath, David went on to become a king, a true giant when we retell the story.

Then David took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, and his sling was in his hand. And when Goliath looked out and saw David, he disdained him, for he was only a youth, ruddy and good looking.

So Goliath said to David, "Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks?" And he cursed David by his gods and said, "Come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field."

So it was, when Goliath arose and came and drew near to meet David that David hurried and ran toward Goliath. David then put his hand in his bag and took out a stone. He slung it and struck Goliath so that Goliath fell on his face to the earth. (I Samuel 17:40ff.)

David's transformational moment, captured in our logo, set him on a course to become one of the most celebrated kings of all time. His deeds are more than legend and his life is so inspiring that his songs and achievements have been etched throughout history - perhaps most notably with Michelangelo's sculpture, "David" depicting the hero just before his epic battle with Goliath.

Another parallel with our Giant 5 story is the fact that David chose five stones. He could have chosen ten stones, or even one stone. People have theorized throughout history as to why David took five stones with him to battle Goliath when he only needed the one. We believe the answer is simple. He took five stones because he didn't know which stone would be the one to win the battle. He took five stones because he wanted to be prepared for anything. He did not bring more than fives stones because five was all that he needed.
